Changes To AS/NZS 1158.6 Lighting For Roads And Public Spaces, Part 6.

Industry News

The last day for public comment on the text of the proposed modified adoption of IEC 60598-2-3 is 20 May. Last year, Standards Australia announced that AS/NZS 1158.6 is to be split into two new documents.

One document will detail the minimum safety requirements for road lighting luminaires (by SA Technical Committee EL-041 Lamps and Related Equipment). This is the document that will be formed using the modified adoption of IEC 60598-2-3, which is currently open for public comment. Its title will be: AS/NZS 60598-2-3 Luminaires - Particular requirements - Luminaires for road and street lighting (IEC 60598-2-3 MOD).

The second document will detail the required technical specifications for product performance, including the requirements for solid state lighting (SSL) light sources, such as LED. This will be titled SA/SNZ TS 1158.6.

Standards Australia has stated that the objective of SA/SNZ TS 1158.6 is to specify additional requirements for the design, construction, and performance of luminaires for roads and public spaces. These requirements are to ensure effective luminaire performance in the varying operating and environmental conditions across Australia and in New Zealand.

These documents will be entirely separate and compliance with AS/NZS IEC 60598.2.3 will not be dependent on compliance with SA/SNZ TS 1158.6.

These two new documents will supersede the 2010 edition of AS/NZS 1158.6:2010.
